Feature for the Makers Atelier Magazine

The Makers Atelier is a Brighton brand started in 2014 by Frances Tobin. Frances created an exceptionally coherent and beautifully designed range of sewing patterns which became so successful it led to a book in 2017. Never a woman to rest on her laurels, Frances decided to publish a magazine dedicated to her brand in 2018. Frances has worked with design agency Eighth Day from the start and together they created an incredibly consistent visual identity for the Makers Atelier.

When Frances contacted me and asked me whether I'd be interested in modelling a range of clothes she was designing for Spring 19 and described her concept as modernist, graphic and colour blocking, I did not have to think twice before accepting.

The photoshoot took place in Wells Coates' modernist building on Brighton seafront on a very stormy day last September. It was shot by photographer Murray Ballard who really captured the essence of the clothes and architecture despite the challenging conditions. The article, and magazine, are designed by Eighth Day. All the accessories are mine.

This feature is in the third edition of the magazine which is out today.
